Nigel Davies French Defence Strategy
The French Defence is one of the best choices a player can make for his opening repertoire, especially older players with limited study time. The solid construction of Black’s game puts the onus on positional understanding and makes it immune to sharp and tricky variations. The longer you play the French the better you’ll play it. On this DVD Nigel Davies explains the strategy behind the French Defence by examining typical pawn structures and explaining the plans and ideas for both sides.

Lawrence Trent Two Knight‘s Defence
On this DVD, IM Lawrence Trent presents a comprehensive repertoire and thematic analysis of the most enterprising, yet well less documented move 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 in the Two Knight’s Defence. Once labelled a “foolish” and “primative” lunge by the old masters, White ignores his development in order to immediately attack the Achilles Heel of Black’s position on f7.

Nigel Davies Build a 1.d4 Repertoire
Creating a Repertoire can be a difficult and demanding job, especially for
those with limited study time. Attempts to implement a lot of new openings at the
same time can set a player adrift in a sea of unknown chess patterns. This in turn can
have a catastrophic impact on their game.
On this DVD Nigel Davies explains how to go about this process of building a repertoire
the right way, with a minimal amount of stress or sweeping wholesale changes.

ChessBase Magazine
ChessBase Magazine 134
ChessBase Magazine starts into 2010 with three very different tournament highlights. The FIDE World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk was once more carried out as a massive KO tournament with 128 participants and saw in Boris Gelfand a victor who threw into the scales against his rivals, who were almost all younger, his experience and strong nerves. The London Chess Classic consisted of an all-play-all with the 3-point rule and saw a neck to neck race between Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Kramnik. The world's new number one managed to decide the tournament in his favour. And in Bursa in Turkey, Russia managed, despite an early slip-up, to defend its title as World Team Champions ahead of the USA which had been leading in the meantime.

Daniel King Power Play 12 - The Hedgehog
The Hedgehog is not just an opening, it is a system. A system that can be used against 1 c4,
against 1 e4 and also 1 d4. Some players, such as the Swedish Grandmaster Ulf Andersson, appear to play very little else with the black pieces. Black’s pieces curl up behind a row of pawns on the third rank and invite White to attack – at which point they spring out from behind the barricades to give the aggressor a nasty shock. The Hedgehog can easily transform into a tiger... This is modern chess.
